Flooded river. Worried woman looking at overflowing water during flood. Extreme weather and natural disaster

The southeast continues to recover from the effects of Hurricane Helene. Ten states were impacted. The government and humanitarian organizations are working hard to deliver much-needed supplies to impacted families and communities. The death toll is over 160 people, and hundreds of people are still missing.

These difficult times highlight the important role of supporting your employees during a natural disaster. Here are some ways to encourage your employees and those in need.

Coordinate volunteer efforts: provide opportunities for employees to help their coworkers and community. Organize a drive to collect essential items, like bottled water, canned food and baby formula.

Make a corporation donation: leadership should make a monetary donation to aid organizations like the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Samaritan’s Purse. There are also state relief agencies.

Promote work-life balance: encourage employees to take breaks, disconnect after work and use their vacation time. Give employees time off to help in relief efforts.

Schedule time for team bonding: set aside time for employees to bond as a team. Host a breakfast or lunch to provide time for connecting with each other.
